After enlarging the Windows RE partition and you attempt to re-enable the Windows RE partition using the command reagentc /enable you may get the error "REAGENTC.EXE: The Windows RE image was not found."
Recover the Winre.wim file from installation media using 7Zip
You will need the following to items:
- Original DVD or ISO used to install the operating system
- Latest version of 7Zip
- Start by downloading and installing the latest version of 7Zip on your computer
- Download or find the original ISO image for the installed operating system
- Double click the ISO file in file explorer to view the file contents, and find the install.wim file in the "Sources" folder.
- Right click the install.wim file and choose "7Zip -> Open Archive" from the menu. You will see folders number 1,2,3,etc. Each number corresponds to a different version of Windows. The Winre.wim file should be the same in each folder. Open the first folder and then find \Windows\System32\Recovery
- Right click the Winre.wim file and choose "Copy To..."
- Enter the path to a folder you have write access to. E.G. C:\Users\<username>.
- Now find the Winre.wim file you extracted. (You may need to configure Windows Explorer to show hidden files).
- Copy the Winre.wim file into C:\Windows\System32\Recovery\.
- Finally run the command
reagentc /enableagain. - Confirm the command succeeded with the message "REAGENTC.EXE: Operation Successful."
